Imphal: The Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights is demanding a full investigation into the alleged abuse of a seven-year-old girl. The child, a student in Imphal East, reportedly suffered physical assault at the hands of her stepmother.
School officials spotted the injuries and sought medical help immediately. Staff at the AAM UPHC clinic flagged the incident to Childline, triggering a response from police and child protection teams. The District Child Protection Unit and the Child Welfare Committee moved in to rescue the victim.
The Commission officially labeled the assault a grave violation of the child's basic rights. "The alleged assault would constitute a serious violation of the child's rights to safety, dignity, care and protection," the MCPCR stated. The body expects a detailed investigation from the police, including an Action Taken Report filed within 15 days.
Officials are pushing for safer environments for all children. They want parents and teachers to report any signs of cruelty without delay. The state remains on alert for further developments in this case.
