Imphal: Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh hosted Brigadier Sachin S. Mahadik, commander of the 59 Mountain Brigade, at the Manipur Secretariat today. The Brigadier delivered an invitation for the 2026 Durand Cup. Imphal will return as a co-host for the tournament at Khuman Lampak Stadium. The Chief Minister expects the event to boost local talent and upgrade sports infrastructure. He said, "It was a matter of pride that Imphal would once again co-host the prestigious football tournament at Khuman Lampak Stadium."
H. Gyan Prakash, the newly appointed chairman of the Manipur Public Service Commission, visited the Chief Minister later. Secretary Neeta Arambam joined the meeting. Khemchand Singh pushed for transparency in state civil service recruitment. He expects the commission to maintain high standards of integrity throughout the new term.
The Chief Minister also held a separate session to audit the Fisheries Department. Commissioner and Secretary Robert Singh Kshetrimayum and Director T. Phulen Meitei attended the meeting alongside other senior staff. They reviewed inland fisheries management and current fish production rates. The state government plans to improve welfare programs for fishing communities through sustainable fish farming. They also addressed existing staffing and operational hurdles within the department.
