Manipur Artist Nimai Singh Wins National Art Award

Imphal: Sarungbam Nimai Singh, an artist from Yumnam Leikai in Imphal, just earned a Lalit Kala Akademi Award. He secured the honor at the 65th National Exhibition of Art. The competition was fierce. Judges picked him from a massive pool of 6,175 entries submitted from across India.

He was one of only 20 awardees selected nationwide. His winning work is a teak wood sculpture titled Mudra-1. The piece showcased his technical skill and focus on visual arts.

Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh reached out to congratulate him. He lauded the win as a major victory for the state. "The recognition adds to the state's rich artistic heritage," the Chief Minister said. He also offered his best wishes for the artist's future career.

This win puts a spotlight on Manipur. It highlights the creative output coming out of the state today. The award proves that local artists play a big part in the national visual arts scene.
