Longtsunger Village Citizens Demand Probe After Deadly Armed Attack

Kohima: The Longtsunger Village Citizens issued a formal demand for a full investigation into the October 10 violence. They claim armed intruders from the Kiusam area launched a pre-planned assault on the village. Villagers were going about their normal routines when the gunmen arrived with sophisticated weapons. The attackers targeted the home of the village council chairman and set fire to multiple residential and public structures.

Gunfire rang out. Locals fought back to defend their land and homes. One intruder died in the clash, while several others suffered injuries. Civil authorities eventually recovered the body of the deceased. The LVC labeled the incident a calculated mobilization against a peaceful community. They issued a statement declaring: "LVC condemned what it described as the mobilisation of an armed mob against a peaceful village and called for an impartial inquiry into the violence, property destruction and circumstances leading to the incident."

Nine Village Guards abandoned their posts during the chaos. The LVC accuses these guards of deserting their duties and absconding with government-issued firearms. The group wants the government to take legal action against the guards. Officials must act now. The LVC expects a thorough inquiry to ensure justice and prevent future bloodshed. They also warned that any further territorial violations or unlawful entries would only spike local tensions.
