Kohima: Longleng officials gathered at the CMTC Hall on Thursday for a seminar on athletic officiating. The District Youth Resources and Sports Officer teamed up with the Phom Sports Association to run the one-day event. Athletics need better training. District sports leaders want players ready for international competition.
Deputy Commissioner W Manpai Phom serves as chairman of the Longleng District Sports Council. He spoke to the crowd about finding rural talent. He said the event was the "first step toward a bigger goal" for the district. Manpai Phom wants more resources to help local athletes reach the top.
Physical education teachers Neikuosielie and Bongshet Phom led the training. They taught staff how to handle track and field events. They also covered starter procedures and ran practical drills. The program aimed to boost public awareness and build discipline.
Finance Secretary B. Bomlei Phom opened the morning with a prayer. PSA Vice President Hamnyei Angh gave the welcome speech. District Sports Officer Kenongoto Thokhwe closed the session with a vote of thanks. Members from all units of the Phom Area Sports Association attended the workshop.
