Shillong: A local court granted KSU general secretary Reuben Najiar 14 days of interim bail on Thursday. The court acted on humanitarian grounds after the death of Najiar's father. He must surrender to authorities by October 1.
Najiar remains in judicial custody for his alleged role in a violent bike rally held in Shillong on the night of August 19. The event saw stone-pelting and vandalism. Police arrested him alongside KSU president Raymond Kharjana and vice-president Pynkmenlang Sanmiet. These men have faced repeated court appearances as investigators build their cases.
Law enforcement added new charges from incidents reported at Sadar, Mawlai, and Rynjah police stations. These filings complicate the legal standing of the group. Authorities have also arrested three other KSU leaders, Jeremiah Pohthmi, Samuel Kharbani, and Banjop Dkhar, for their involvement in the same string of cases.
