Kohima: Kohima officials demanded faster progress on the National Highway 29 project during an August 25 review meeting. District leaders sat down with the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited and contractors at the Kohima DC office to address stalled road work. The project connects Kohima to Phek. Progress lags behind schedule.
Construction crews must tackle sinking zones, drainage issues, and culvert installation. Contractors agreed to start major road base and surface works on September 12. They promised to finish the identified Kohima section tasks by the first week of October 2026. Deadlines are fixed.
Deputy Commissioner B. Henok Buchem ordered the teams to bring in more machinery, men, and materials immediately. He wants to see results on the ground. Buchem directed the NHIDCL and the EPC contractor to pay attention to local sentiments. He said, "The district administration would extend necessary support in resolving issues within its jurisdiction and closely monitor progress against the timelines committed by the contractor." The administration plans to track every milestone until the road is complete.
