Kohima: Kohima District Administration officials met with NHIDCL and contractor representatives on Tuesday to address major delays on National Highway 29. The road links Kohima to Phek. Progress has stalled. Authorities reviewed a laundry list of issues including sinking zones, inadequate road maintenance, and faulty drainage.
Work on the granular sub-base, wet mix macadam, culverts, and shoulder protection remains behind schedule. The contractor promised to start heavy construction work, specifically the granular sub-base, wet mix macadam, and dense bituminous macadam, on September 12. They plan to wrap up the Kohima section by the first week of October.
Deputy Commissioner B Henok Buchem ordered the contractors to pick up the pace immediately. He demanded the quick arrival of more machinery, manpower, and construction materials to hit these targets. Buchem warned officials to keep local concerns in mind, stating, "The district administration, he said, would provide necessary support in resolving issues within its jurisdiction and monitor progress against the timelines committed by the contractor." Administration officials will now track the work against the contractor's specific deadlines to ensure completion.
