Agartala: The state government opened its Boro paddy procurement drive at the Dauchhara Natmandir premises in Kalyanpur this Monday. The Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and the Food and Civil Supplies Department lead the effort. They set a goal to buy 510 metric tonnes of paddy at the support rate of Rs 23.69 per kilogram. The program runs until July 31.

Kalyanpur MLA Pinaki Das Choudhury, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Apurba Krishna Chakraborty, Agricultural Supervisor Debraj Barman, and Kalyanpur Panchayat Samiti Chairman Somen Gopal attended the launch. Local leaders and farmers joined them. Sub-Divisional Magistrate Chakraborty addressed the crowd regarding the importance of the industry. He stated, "farmers’ contribution can never be denied, as society depends on their relentless labour and sacrifice."

MLA Pinaki Das Choudhury claimed the BJP government remains dedicated to protecting farmer interests through consistent support prices. He knocked past administrations for restricting market access. The current plan pushes for better seeds, new machinery, subsidies, and technical training. Procurement started right after the speeches. Farmers left the ceremony with a clear plan to sell their harvest for fair value.
