Guwahati: Jorhat music director Jayanta Nath pulled the shroud off a new bust of icon Zubeen Garg. The tribute stands inside the Madhumilan Hotel. More than 200 people watched the ceremony. The hotel owners, the Subham Saha family, led the effort to honor the star. The hotel opened in 1982.
Garg forged a deep bond with the hotel during his years at J.B. College. He frequently stopped by for his favorite singara. Even after moving his life to Guwahati, he kept the tradition alive during his return visits. The Saha family counted him as one of their own.
Performers sang hits from his catalog throughout the event. Musicians played tracks like Mayabini to mark the occasion. Devananda Bora and Sanjib Chikhu also performed other pieces from his repertoire. Attendees reflected on his massive impact on Assamese culture. One local fan remarked, "The bust was installed on the hotel premises to honour that association and preserve his memory."
