Guwahati: IIT Guwahati is set to host the inaugural International Conference on Design and Innovation Studies. The event runs from September 28 to 30. Organizers expect a crowd of experts from academia, industry, policy, and the design sector. They want to talk about how design-led innovation shapes the future.
The Department of Design at IIT Guwahati runs the show. They are working with the MIT Institute of Design and MIT ADT University, Pune. It is a three-day event. These groups aim to tackle societal and environmental problems through new design methods.
The conference provides a space for practitioners, educators, and leaders to exchange ideas. Official statements note the event will focus on how design-led innovation can contribute to the development of "sustainable, inclusive and technologically mediated futures." Attendees will examine emerging design practices and specific technological developments during their sessions.

The upcoming innovation summit is officially titled INDIS 2026. Organizers expect the event to draw researchers to the mix of experts already confirmed for the three day session.
Separately, the institute wrapped up a two day workshop on September 21 focused on campus mental health and student resilience. More than 100 participants from 28 higher education institutions across the Northeast and Delhi attended the event, which was funded by the Ministry of Education.
IIT Guwahati director Devendra Jalihal addressed the group, noting that institutions must tackle the root causes of student distress rather than reacting only after a tragedy occurs. The session, which featured input from over 20 professionals, marked the third in a five part national series targeting institutional support systems.
