Guwahati: Guwahati police are tightening hotel security. The move follows the death of 22-year-old student Nimisha Thakuria. On September 29, DCP Bolin Deuri met with owners and managers from the Fatasil Ambari area to demand strict compliance with guest verification rules.

Lodging facilities must now keep precise records for every visitor. Police expect owners to confirm identities before handing over keys. This is mandatory. Special attention is required when young men and women book rooms together. Owners must verify all identification documents without exception.

Deuri issued a firm warning during the briefing. He stated, "Police directed all accommodation facilities to ensure that the police helpline number is displayed in every room, also instructed owners and managers not to allot rooms to young men and women without proper identification documents."

Failure to follow these rules will bring consequences. The department plans to take strict action against any facility that ignores the mandate. This awareness drive aims to stop criminal activity before it starts. Hotels must remain alert and keep the police informed to maintain public safety.
