Gorkha Pathshala Celebrates 150 Years of History

Shillong: Gorkha Pathshala Higher Secondary School ends its year-long 150th-anniversary celebration this Saturday. The school stands as one of the oldest institutions in Meghalaya. Gorkha servicemen started the school in 1876 inside a small thatched hut. It has since grown into a major center for students.

Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar will serve as the chief guest for the final event. Cabinet Minister Sanbor Shullai and government adviser Paul Lyngdoh will also attend as guests of honour. The festivities began in October last year.

Formal proceedings kick off at 11 am. A cultural and musical programme for parents starts at 2:30 pm. School officials stated the event "marks the conclusion of the 150th-anniversary celebrations which commenced in October last year."
