Former MCA President Denies Ignoring Sexual Harassment Claims

Shillong: Former Meghalaya Cricket Association president Naba Bhattacharjee is firing back. He denies ignoring sexual harassment complaints from the Under-23 women’s cricket team. The allegations involve former coach Hemant Roy and assistant manager Sanjay Mondal.

Bhattacharjee claims he never saw the reports. He told the Meghalaya State Commission for Women that an email sent on December 3, 2025, never reached his desk. He left the association in January 2026. He says he did not personally monitor the official MCA inbox, as office staff handled those duties.

“Had the matter been brought to my notice even in the last hour of my tenure, an emergency Apex Council meeting would have been convened to address the issue and initiate necessary action,” Bhattacharjee said. He slammed current president James P.K. Sangma for making biased comments regarding the scandal.

The Commission recently blamed former leaders for failing to set up a mandatory Internal Complaints Committee. The POSH Act requires this setup. Sangma now wants the state government to review if Bhattacharjee should keep his advisory roles. Bhattacharjee remains defiant. He questioned why the association stalled after players went to the commission in May 2026.
