Imphal: Former police officer Thounaojam Brinda officially joined the Indian National Congress on Sunday. She brought ten other political leaders from seven constituencies into the party fold. The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee hosted the event at Congress Bhavan in Imphal.

MPCC president Okram Ibobi Singh welcomed the group. The roster includes B. Bharat Sharma, Th. Oxford Singh, Longjam Suranjoy Singh, and Yengkhom Sanjeep Singh. Laishram Sashibhushan, Kh. Devendro Singh, Kh. Gambhir Singh, Md. Nasir Khan, M. Anwar Hussain, and Col. Mohd. Sahid Khan also joined. Senior party figures like Bimol Akoijam and Gaikhangam attended the ceremony.

Brinda took aim at the BJP during the event. She claimed the ongoing chaos in Manipur was not an inter-community fight. She labeled the unrest as "state-sponsored violence and terrorism" instead. Brinda says Congress is the only force capable of beating the BJP and stabilizing the state.

This marks Brinda's second run at the Yaiskul constituency. She lost to BJP Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata Singh in the 2022 election. Now she hopes a change in party leads to different results for the state.
