Guwahati: Floodwaters are finally dropping across the Alengmora region of Jorhat district. The retreat brings some relief, but the crisis is far from over. Many houses remain trapped underwater. Mud and stagnant pools block roads and choke off access to basic services.
Families are stuck. They cannot reach the store for food or medical care. The damage to property is now clear for everyone to see. Homes are waterlogged and belongings are ruined. Poor sanitation has local leaders worried about disease outbreaks.
Relief teams are still on the ground. The district administration is handing out drinking water and food supplies to the hardest-hit families. Volunteers and various non-governmental organizations have joined the effort to distribute essential goods. The community needs more help. Residents remain in limbo, waiting for the water to vanish so they can start the long process of rebuilding their lives.
"Many families continue to await sustained relief, rehabilitation support, and the restoration of basic infrastructure before normalcy can be fully restored in the flood-affected areas of Alengmora."
