Shillong: A recent landslide near Laitlyngkot wiped out a section of the Shillong-Dawki highway. Heavy rain triggered the collapse. Now, the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) is running a scientific check on the destruction.
This road project sees frequent slides. Engineers are currently hunting for permanent fixes to stop the ground from giving way again. Traffic flow has stopped on the main route. Sanjay Goyal, the Commissioner and Secretary of Revenue and Disaster Management, said, "vehicles are now plying through alternate routes after the latest incident."
Goyal confirmed the state has mobilized its full gear to handle the monsoon. They shifted cash to deputy commissioners to cover urgent needs. Teams remain on high alert. Forecasters expect more heavy rain to hammer specific areas of the state in the coming days.
