Shillong: Former RSS city secretary Homnath Gautam joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday. He brought a crowd of supporters to the state headquarters in Shillong. The move signals a push for the West Shillong Assembly seat in the 2028 elections. Meghalaya BJP state president Rikman G. Momin and city district president H. Bob Lyngdoh welcomed him into the fold.
Momin pushed the party ideology of Nation First during the event. He told workers to focus on the grassroots level to build support. The BJP is trying to capitalize on the central government’s recent attention toward the Northeast. Momin stated, "The BJP believes in dedication, discipline and loyalty."
Party leaders also opened a new West Shillong office in Mawbah. Former National People’s Party member Mohendro Rapsang joined the effort, urging workers to use the new space to explain central schemes to the public. H. Bob Lyngdoh emphasized the need for internal cohesion. He expects members to follow established procedures and maintain strict discipline to guarantee a victory in 2028.
Gautam claims his shift is driven by the vision for national growth. He warned his new colleagues to drop all internal negativity. He insisted that the party must stay united to serve the public effectively. Leaders like Hek and Kharkrang also attended the office opening, reinforcing the goal of party expansion across the constituency.
