Guwahati: Former National Democratic Front of Bodoland leader Bhupen Boro pressed for the total execution of the 2020 Bodoland Territorial Region Peace Accord on Monday, September 14. He spoke at the 38th Martyrs Day held at the Jwhwlao Daimalu playground in Karigaon, Kokrajhar. The event honored the movement's first martyr, Bangbur Gwra Basumatary, also known as B Bangburgra.
Boro insists both the government and former rebels share the duty to follow through on the deal. The agreement ended 34 years of fighting. "We want the peace accord to be implemented in full. It is our responsibility, as well as the government's, to honour this accord, which brought an end to the 34-year-long armed struggle," Boro said. The former NDFB United Forum organized the gathering to gather cadres, leaders, and families of the fallen.
The 2020 pact involved the Centre, the Assam government, and Bodo factions to trade violence for development. Boro also demanded freedom for jailed NDFB chairman Ranjan Daimary and other remaining inmates. Participants paid their respects to those killed during the decades of unrest as the region works to maintain the peace secured by the accord.
