Kohima: The Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Union Mokokchung issued a stern warning today regarding digital harassment. They want an end to the creation and circulation of memes, photos, and videos targeting members of the Eastern Nagaland community. Union President Y Among and Executive Secretary Selepe released a joint statement outlining the crackdown on manipulated content meant to insult, humiliate, or threaten local leaders and individuals.
Stop the posts. The directive targets students, educational institutions, WhatsApp group administrators, and social media moderators. The union will document every report of defamatory content coming out of Mokokchung. They will hand these files to law enforcement and Cyber Crime authorities for prosecution under the law.
Administrators carry a heavy burden. They may face legal proceedings in court for content that spreads through their groups. Everyone must think before they click. The union demands the public uphold dignity and peace online. As the statement noted, "What may appear to be a joke or meme can have serious legal consequences when it harms another person’s dignity or reputation."
