Itanagar: A coalition of student, youth, and community groups will shut down East Siang district on September 30. The 12-hour bandh runs from 5 am to 5 pm. It targets the state government's ongoing teacher transfer and rationalization policy.

Organizers say they acted after officials ignored repeated appeals. The groups submitted formal demands on September 21 and 23. They want a freeze on transfers until the department reviews the orders. They specifically demand protection for teachers who have not hit a three-year tenure. This follows Clause 4 of the Education Department notice issued on May 21, 2026.

The BBYK, Adi Bane Kebang Youth Wing, AdiSU, Mebo Area Yameng Kebang, All Bosing Banggo Student Union, Legong Banggo Student Union, All Bogong Student Union, and All Mebo Constituency Student Union organized the protest. These groups warn that moving staff without evaluating school needs hurts students. Schools like IGJ Higher Secondary and D Ering Higher Secondary face severe staffing gaps.

"The bandh would be conducted peacefully and within the law, with the stated objective of protecting students' academic interests and ensuring adequate teaching strength in East Siang schools," the organizers stated. They want the government to open a dialogue before the deadline arrives.
