Digboi Co-District Struggles With Media Blackout

Guwahati: The Digboi Co-District Commissioner’s office at Tingrai remains a black hole for news. Nearly a year since operations began, the administration lacks a designated media liaison or a working plan to engage with reporters. This oversight leaves journalists scrounging for basic details on public works, law enforcement, and welfare schemes.

The current setup is broken. Before this administration started, local press relied on the Margherita Sub-Divisional Public Relations Officer or the Tinsukia district Information and Public Relations machinery. Those pipelines have dried up. Reporters now face a chaotic chain of responsibility where no one claims ownership of official communication.

Members of local press clubs report that the Margherita administration ignores them, while Tinsukia’s flow of information has become inconsistent. Direct access to the Co-District office for facts or clarifications is nonexistent. The frustration among the local press corps is growing. They want firm answers from those in charge.

The media fraternity is demanding clarity from the competent authorities on "who should serve as the authorised point of contact for journalists covering the Digboi Co-District." Officials must decide if the responsibility falls to the Margherita PRO, the Tinsukia machinery, or the Co-District office itself. Until then, the public remains in the dark.
