Guwahati: A wild elephant lies dead near Pulibagan. Locals discovered the carcass along the border of Nagaon and Karbi Anglong. It was a grisly find. The animal, located in the Parkup Range of the Karbi Anglong Forest Division, bore visible bullet marks on its head and abdomen.
Residents alerted the Forest Department immediately. They arrived to secure the scene. Theories on the death vary wildly among the local population. Some point toward poachers seeking meat and tusks. Others blame farmers protecting crops in the nearby hills. The cause remains unconfirmed.
"The circumstances surrounding its death are yet to be established," according to officials. Forest staff are now leading the inquiry. They must determine if this was a case of illegal poaching or a violent clash between wildlife and local growers.
