CEO BDR Tiwari Urges Better Communication Using Lessons from Indian Epics

Shillong: Chief Electoral Officer BDR Tiwari told the Shillong Toastmasters Club on Sunday that how you talk matters as much as what you say. He spoke at The Shillong Club during the group's charter meeting. Effective speaking requires more than just words. It needs body language and clear ideas.

Tiwari pointed to the Ramayana and Mahabharata as major contributions to human history. He noted that the way ideas and values are shared holds power. "The way ideas, thoughts and values are communicated can be as important as the words themselves," Tiwari said. He used Lord Ram to teach moral values and Lord Hanuman to show selfless service.

The event ran under the theme The Ultimate Playbook. Strategy served as the official word of the day. The agenda featured an induction ceremony, prepared speeches, and evaluations. Senior members assessed guest speakers during short two-to-three-minute sessions. They provided pointed feedback on cutting out filler words and fixing physical gestures. Tiwari praised the group for their presentation style, noting the vital gap between writing and speaking.
