Cachar Son Arrested After Fatal Property Dispute Stabbing

Guwahati: A 65-year-old woman is dead after her son attacked her with a sharp weapon inside their home. The killing occurred at 2 pm on August 4 in Bhatgram village within the Cachar district of Assam. Jarina Begum died at the scene. Her son, 40-year-old Altai, allegedly targeted her following a long-running argument over the sale of ancestral property.

The suspect snapped when his mother blocked the land sale. He struck while the rest of the family was out. When neighbors heard the commotion and tried to help, the attacker turned his blade on another woman. She remains in the hospital with severe injuries. Local residents managed to subdue Altai and handed him to the Kalain Police.

Officers retrieved the body and moved it to a morgue for a post-mortem exam. Authorities opened a formal case and are currently digging into the specifics of the event. A police official stated, "An investigation is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the incident."
