Guwahati: Former MP and AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal visited flood-hit regions in Sivasagar on July 22 to demand urgent political cooperation. He wants ministers and MLAs to ditch legislative business to focus on relief. Ajmal proposed a two-day suspension of the Assam Assembly so lawmakers can personally deliver aid to victims.
Ajmal urged the state and Central governments to secure thousands of crores in financial support for the displaced. He plans to send a formal request to Prime Minister Narendra Modi once his site visit concludes. While the government has used helicopters for supply drops, Ajmal noted that aid has not reached every affected citizen.
He pushed for personal contributions from ministers, citing a duty to humanity over political or religious lines. During his tour, he emphasized that his relief efforts ignore community backgrounds. He stated, "I have not come here seeing whether someone is Hindu or Muslim. Around 99 per cent of the people here are non-Muslims, and we have come to help them."
The AIUDF leader warned that the situation is a matter of grave concern. He insisted that the current crisis requires unified action rather than criticism of existing government efforts. Every person deserves support regardless of caste, creed, or religion.
