Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi on Thursday. The two leaders discussed how to turn Assam into a major player in India's semiconductor mission. They want the state to handle both fabrication and packaging.

Sarma wants central help to build up the local tech sector. He detailed his plans for the state online. “I have sought the IT Ministry’s guidance to help establish Assam as a central pillar in India’s semiconductor strategy and develop both upstream and downstream capabilities like fabrication and packaging,” he said.

Infrastructure is the second half of the deal. The pair talked about expanding rail lines across the region. Plans include a new connection between Lanka and Umrangso. They also looked at ways to speed up the India-Bhutan rail project.

Sarma praised the Minister for his help. The state government expects to reveal more details on these developments soon.
