Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met with Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu in New Delhi on Thursday. The two leaders reviewed aviation projects aimed at turning the state into a regional logistics hub. They need to move fast. Sarma pushed for immediate approval of the proposed greenfield airport at Silchar, noting that state officials have already finished most of the legwork.

Sarma called the session very productive. Both governments plan to ramp up efforts to link remote areas through better infrastructure. The state also wants five more greenfield airports built in Manas, Umrangso, Majuli, Diphu, and Charaideo. Officials agreed to start pre-feasibility studies for these sites right away.

The plan also includes a new heliport at Haflong and the expansion of Rupsi Airport. Better airports mean more jobs and stronger tourism. The state expects this growth to boost cargo movement across the Northeast. Top officials including Civil Aviation Secretary Samir Kumar Sinha attended the talks to ensure the projects stay on track.
