Guwahati: Nagaon District Commissioner Debashish Sharma stripped Azizur Rahman of his position as an elected ward member. Rahman represented Ward No. 4 of the Maheripar Gaon Panchayat inside the Bagriguri Development Block. He is out. The removal followed an official inquiry into claims that Rahman provided forged documents during his election campaign.
Investigators dug into his background. They confirmed Rahman was born on January 31, 1999. Records show his first child arrived on August 7, 2016. This timeline proves he was 17 years old when he became a father. This act violated state child marriage laws.
The Assistant Commissioner led the probe with help from the Zilla Parishad CEO and the Block Development Officer. Their findings were conclusive. "Nagaon District Commissioner Debashish Sharma issued an order cancelling Rahman's membership of the gaon panchayat," officials confirmed. Ward No. 4 is now officially vacant as the Assam government presses its campaign to stop child marriage.
