Guwahati: BJP MLA Diganta Kalita fired back at Trinamool Congress legislator Sherman Ali on Tuesday, July 28. Ali questioned the efficiency of disaster response crews during Assam's ongoing flood crisis. Kalita labeled these criticisms unfortunate. He insisted that the National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force personnel are working hard in impossible conditions. They deserve public backing, not blame.
Kalita shifted focus to the government's push for new anti-paper leak legislation. He claimed the law will restore student faith in public exams. The bill mandates three to five years of prison time for offenders. Fast-track courts will handle these cases. Organizations or private firms caught in the fraud face penalties up to Rs 10 crore. The government has already set up a high-level task force to tackle the leak problem head-on.
Protests continue over recent exam integrity issues. Kalita urged students to keep their dissent peaceful and legal. He cited social media reports suggesting outside agitators infiltrated recent demonstrations. He warned protesters to stay within the bounds of the law. Kalita said, "third-party elements" had entered the CJP protest. He wants demonstrators to respect the Constitution while they push for change.
