Assam Leads Nation in New Criminal Law Rollout

Guwahati: Assam sits at the top of the pack for implementing new criminal laws. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the state's ranking today. Since the July 1, 2024, rollout of the Nyay Sanhitas, Assam reached a 92.16 per cent success rate. That beats the national average of 74.86 per cent by a wide margin.

The state hit 100 per cent compliance on several technical benchmarks. These include the Nyay Sanhitas and Model Rules, the Inter Operable Criminal Justice System Data Sharing Matrix, and the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System. Assam also fully integrated the Medico-Legal Examination and Post Mortem Reporting System. Progress remains steady.

Sarma pledged to keep the momentum going. He stated, "The state government remains committed to ensuring that every victim is heard, every case is pursued to its conclusion and citizens receive timely justice." Officials intend to keep this pace as the new legal framework takes hold across the state.
