Assam Husband Arrested Following Wife's Suspicious Death

Guwahati: Cops arrested 40-year-old Mrityunjay Das Tuesday after his wife was found dead in their home. The body of 35-year-old Champa Das turned up inside their house in Das Colony, Rangirkhari, within Assam's Cachar district. He killed her. Family members became worried when she stopped answering her phone around 11 a.m. Her son, Bhuban Das, went to the residence and discovered her unresponsive on a bed.

Rangirkhari police arrived at the scene, recovered the body, and moved it to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem. The victim's family accused the husband of strangling her before he fled the area. Officers launched a search and took him into custody shortly after. While held by police, the accused appeared in social media videos admitting to the act. He reportedly stated, "I had strangled my wife," and blamed domestic issues for the violence.

Investigators are now processing forensic evidence and material collected at the scene. They wait on final autopsy results before moving forward with formal charges.
