Guwahati: Assam Health Minister Ashok Singhal opened the new Swahid Madan Rowta Civil Hospital building in Pathsala, Bajali district today. The addition aims to bolster medical services for residents across the region. Healthcare infrastructure is expanding.

Singhal used the event to flag a growing national crisis. He identified rising mental health problems as a top public health priority that requires immediate action. The minister blamed digital habits for the decline in wellness. He pointed to excessive social media use and a lack of outdoor activity as primary drivers for the trend among young people.

"Mental health has emerged as an important public health concern and that collective efforts are needed to ensure people receive timely support and care," Singhal said. He pushed for early identification of symptoms and better access to treatment facilities. To combat the issue, he urged citizens to swap screen time for real world social interaction. The minister believes keeping a healthy balance between technology and physical exercise is essential for the future.
