Guwahati: Woolah Rare Assam Green Tea grabbed a 1-Star Great Taste Award for 2026. This recognition comes from the UK-based Guild of Fine Food. It represents a massive win for the tea industry in Assam. The judging panel featured over 500 chefs, retailers, and food writers who blind-tested the entries. They judge products solely on flavor and quality while ignoring brands and packaging.
The award celebrates the patented Bagless Tea Dip technology. This design uses compressed whole tea leaves. It removes the need for standard tea bags and stops microplastic pollution. Sivasagar-based Woolah produces this tea through its Woolah Organic Mission. The project links directly to local growers, focusing on organic methods and rural jobs for women. Xcillency Limited handles distribution in the United Kingdom.
Company founder Upamanyu Borkakoty emphasized the integrity of the blind test. "Since the judges never saw our brand, packaging or story, this recognition is entirely based on the quality of the tea. This honour belongs equally to Assam’s tea growers and our team," Borkakoty said. The win signals a shift for Assam, moving toward premium products, innovation, and sustainable practices for global markets.
