Shillong: Meghalaya BJP leader AL Hek wants a middle ground for the Inner Line Permit. He says the permit must help the state without hurting tourism. Transit passengers deserve free movement. Travelers heading between Guwahati and Silchar should face no roadblocks.
Hek warns against one-sided restrictions. “The government should consider ILP, but there must be clear guidelines. It should benefit both the local population and the tourism sector,” Hek said. His party supports the permit demand but insists on sensible application.
The veteran politician is also pushing to get Khasi and Garo languages into the Eighth Schedule. He and the state BJP president wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They expect the Centre to prioritize languages that meet the legal requirements.
Hek credits the BJP for the recent wave of development cash hitting the state. He says Union Ministers are bringing packages as a blessing from the center. He ordered state departments like the PWD and Health to spend the money properly.
