AJP Hojai Leaders Jump Ship to AGP Before Nagaon Bypoll

Guwahati: A swarm of Assam Jatiya Parishad office-bearers and workers abandoned their party to join the Assam Gana Parishad. They switched sides at the AGP office in Nagaon. The timing is no accident. A high-stakes by-election for the Nagaon Lok Sabha seat looms large.

AGP president Atul Bora and working president Keshab Mahanta oversaw the induction ceremony. The new recruits belong to the AJP Hojai district committee. Both sides are cranking up their local campaigns as the vote nears.

AGP workers expect a fallout. They claim AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal will suffer a major setback. The party faithful believe their candidate, Debashish Sharma, holds the winning hand. "BJP candidate Debashish Sharma, who is contesting as part of the ruling alliance, would secure a major victory," party members stated during the event. The ruling alliance is currently pouring resources into the constituency to cement its position.
