Shillong: Shillong has officially staked its claim on the national food scene. Rynsan and Nonna Mei grabbed spots on the India’s Top 50 Restaurants 2026 list released on October 6. They stand as the only two establishments from the Northeast to make the cut. Rynsan landed at number 32 with its modern spin on local dishes. Nonna Mei took the 44th spot by blending Italian influences with local ingredients.
This achievement puts the Meghalaya capital in the company of heavy hitters like Mumbai, Goa, Bengaluru, Kolkata, New Delhi, and Chennai. Goa led the pack with the highest number of entries. Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma celebrated the news on October 6. He lauded the kitchens for their bold work. "Congratulations to Rynsan and Nonna Mei on being named among the Top 50 winners," Sangma wrote.
The Chief Minister praised the pair for showcasing the diversity, creativity, and sophistication of the state's food. He noted how they are reimagining traditional flavors and bringing local and Italian styles together. The ranking marks a major milestone for the city's food culture. "Meghalaya’s flavours are making their mark on the national culinary map," Sangma added.
