Kohima: The Tsütuonuomia Students’ Union (TSU) hosted its 9th Annual Literary Day-cum-Felicitation Programme on July 25 at the T.Khel Indoor Stadium in Kohima Village. Over 100 students competed across categories including singing, painting, debate, spelling bee, extempore, essay, creative writing, instrumental, quiz, and elocution.
MLA Dr. Tseilhoutuo (Ato) Rhutso delivered the valedictory address. He encouraged students to pursue excellence through sincerity and discipline. "Whatever you do, start by doing what is necessary and what is possible," he advised. During his remarks, he recounted working as a bus conductor and newspaper vendor. He also warned students against the misuse of artificial intelligence for spreading misinformation.
PHED Executive Engineer Er. Sedevilie Suohu opened the event, urging students to respect their parents. T.Khel Council General Secretary Thepfuzakie Suohu also spoke, labeling children as the greatest treasure of their parents. The programme was compered by Kiyakhrienuo Solo and Viketouca Belho, with opening blessings provided by Rev. Kevimese Suhu and Rev. Atuo Whuorie.
TSU presented several excellence awards. Neilhou Belho received the Lt. Er. Ruokuobezizo Solo Memorial Award for a Top 7 rank in the HSLC examination. HSSLC awards went to Keduoneinuo Evelyn (Science), Mhalezhünuo Sekhose (Arts), and Vibeilie Vincent Solo (Commerce). The union also awarded gold medals to Thejangunuo Suohu, Mezhülhoutounuo Suhu, and Dr. Khrieketounuo Belho for advanced academic achievements. Professionals Medozhanuo Solo, Ketholetuo Solo, and Vikerüse Suohu were recognized for their NPSC and NSSB success.
Literary competition winners included Shürheichünuo Phewhuo in Sub-Junior Solo Singing, Virienuo Sekhose in Junior Solo Singing, and Mengunuo Sekhose in Elocution. Thejasenuo Belho won the debate, while Vimeyiezo Jordan Whuorie took top honors in instrumental solo. Nounesevor Solo won creative writing, and Jason Kekhrietsu Belho and Kevikielie Solo claimed victory in English and Tenyidie spelling bees respectively. Other winners spanned categories including extempore, sketching, painting, and quiz. These top performers will represent TSU at the 32nd Spero Meliora event on August 8.
