Agartala: The Tripura State Election Commission is moving fast. Dr. P.K. Chakravarty announced the schedule to finalize polling stations for the 2026 urban local body general elections. The process kicks off with a draft list publication on September 17, 2026.
Voters have a tight window to speak up. The commission will accept claims, objections, and suggestions until September 21, 2026. Officials will process these filings on September 23, 2026. Everything wraps up with the final list publication on September 25, 2026.
District Magistrates acting as District Municipal Election Officers hold the authority here. They must publish the ward-specific lists under the Tripura Municipalities Rules of 1995. This mandate covers all districts including North, Unakoti, Dhalai, Khowai, West, Sepahijala, Gomati, and South Tripura.
The commission expects full compliance across all local levels. "The District Municipal Election Officers across all districts, including North, Unakoti, Dhalai, Khowai, West, Sepahijala, Gomati, and South Tripura, along with various Sub-Divisional Election Authorities, have been informed," the official notification stated. The Director of the Printing and Stationery Department must now publish these details in an extraordinary issue of the Tripura Gazette.

The process rests on specific legal grounding. Officials are acting under Rule 3 of the Tripura Municipalities (Conduct of Election) Rules, 1995. Furthermore, they are citing Rule 7 of the Tripura Municipalities (Registration of Electors) Rules, 1995, as the primary requirement for publishing ward-level lists.
The mandate also clarifies the role of the General Administration Department, specifically tasking the Director of the GA (Printing and Stationery) Department with ensuring the notification hits an extraordinary issue of the state gazette.
