Student Union Demands Ousting of Manipur Exam Controller

Imphal: The Socialist Students’ Union of Manipur (SSUM) wants the Controller of Examinations for the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur (COHSEM), fired immediately. The group claims the official lacks the experience needed for the job and has botched the supervision of testing.

SSUM warns that poor management threatens the academic future of thousands. The union alleges that the controller ignores irregularities and fails to maintain order during testing windows. They pointed to the handling of question papers as a major point of failure. Teachers often share drafts with colleagues for review, which threatens the integrity of the exams. SSUM stated, "such practices could create opportunities for question-paper leakage and undermine the fairness and credibility of examinations."

The union also claims that teachers tasked with writing exams take on private tuition students. This conflict of interest creates a risk where questions might leak to select students. The government must step in. SSUM officials demand a review of the controller and a complete overhaul of current monitoring systems to protect the state’s students.
