Kohima: Social work students from St. Joseph University in Chumoukedima spent eight days living and working in Alaphumi village. The Bachelor of Social Work students arrived in the Zunheboto district on July 11 and finished their work on July 18, 2026. The trip operated under the theme, "Campus to Community: From Notes to Nurture."
Students started by meeting with local village leaders and faculty members to set their goals. They performed a Participatory Rural Appraisal exercise to map out local resources and household data. The group then launched a survey to track family occupations, sanitation, health access, and common illnesses across the village.
The team got busy. They staged a street play focused on the dangers of drug and alcohol addiction to push for healthier lifestyles. For the local children, the students held workshops to teach crochet and run games designed to boost leadership and communication skills. A joint cleanliness drive with the villagers cleaned up the area, while the final day turned into a celebration of song and dance to highlight cultural ties.
