Guwahati: Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal met with local officials on Monday to map out permanent fixes for Dibrugarh's traffic snarls. The session brought together the Deputy Commissioner, the Mayor, the Deputy Mayor, the Commissioner of the Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation, and the Divisional Railway Manager of the Tinsukia Division of the Northeast Frontier Railway.
City streets are choking. Vehicles pile up daily, especially during peak hours. H.S. Road remains the biggest headache for locals as illegal roadside parking guts the flow of traffic. Residents have complained for years, but the bottlenecks persist. Sonowal aims to stop the gridlock by building a modern parking facility on railway land.
"A major focus of today's discussion was accelerating construction of a modern parking facility on railway land to ease city congestion," Sonowal stated. He noted that his primary goal involves the quick rollout of urban planning and traffic management tools. The plan seeks to prioritize public convenience while modernizing the city infrastructure to keep pace with a growing number of vehicles.
