Gangtok: Sikkim Member of Parliament Indra Hang Subba joined the Joint Parliamentary Committee for a series of high-level consultations in New Delhi on Wednesday. The committee is currently reviewing the Constitution 130th Amendment Bill, the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Amendment Bill 2025, and the Government of Union Territories Amendment Bill 2025.
Led by Chairperson Aparajita Sarangi, the committee visited the Delhi Secretariat to gather input from diverse stakeholders. These discussions involved officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Law and Justice, the National Human Rights Commission, and the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi.
The group also met with the Chief Minister of Delhi and representatives from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University and the civil society organization Common Cause. The objective of these meetings is to facilitate a comprehensive review of the proposed legislation before the committee submits its final recommendations to Parliament. Regarding the legislative process, the official report noted, "The study visit was undertaken as part of the Committee's ongoing examination of the Bills, with the objective of conducting a comprehensive review and formulating recommendations for consideration by Parliament."
