Gangtok: A 54-year-old resident of Geyzing, Sikkim, fell victim to a suspected drugging and robbery after boarding a taxi in Gangtok. The man was carrying Rs 7 lakh in cash when he entered the vehicle on April 15. Investigators believe he was incapacitated by a sedative mixed into food or drink consumed during the trip, causing him to lose consciousness shortly after departing.
The victim regained awareness two days later at a railway station in Cuttack, Odisha, located nearly 800 kilometers away. His cash and personal belongings were missing, and he had no memory of the journey to the neighboring state. After seeking help from the Government Railway Police in Cuttack, he received medical attention and provided a statement to authorities.
Police have registered a formal case against unidentified persons under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Officials are now working to identify the suspects and determine if an organized criminal gang is responsible for targeting travelers carrying large sums of money. Authorities are currently reviewing the incident and have issued a warning for passengers to remain vigilant and avoid accepting food or drinks from strangers while using public transportation.
