Gangtok: Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang launched a fleet of new ambulances for Pakyong district on Tuesday. The vehicles aim to slash response times for medical emergencies in rural parts of the state. Rajya Sabha MP D.T. Lepcha joined the Chief Minister at the event alongside officials from the health department and local administration.
Indian Oil Corporation Limited paid for the ambulances through its corporate social responsibility program. Ajay Kumar Wazir, the firm's Kolkata-based CSR head, attended the ceremony with representatives from the WE Foundation. The state government coordinated the rollout to fill gaps in existing medical transport services.
The Chief Minister thanked the contributors for their investment in public health. He noted that the new fleet strengthens rural medical infrastructure. "The addition of the ambulances would improve access to timely medical assistance and emergency transportation for residents of the district," Tamang said.
