Shillong community honors Bordoloi as city prepares for Tagore tributes

Shillong: Members of the Asom Kristi Kendra in Stoneyland gathered to mourn Munindra Kumar Bordoloi. He died July 2, 2026, at age 79. He was a dedicated member of the organization. Colleagues noted he played a major role in community building initiatives. Beyond his volunteer work, he served as a Transport Officer for Shillong during the era of undivided Assam.

Shillong is turning its attention to another figure this weekend. Adorers of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore will hold tributes at the Brookside bungalow in Rilbong this Saturday. The day begins at 7:30 am with a floral offering at his statue. The schedule moves to the Rabindranath Tagore Art Gallery for a cultural program starting at 2:30 pm.

The group reflected on the local impact of the late leader. Fellow members stated, "Bordoloi had played a pivotal role in the community building initiatives undertaken by the Kendra."
