Ram Gopal Varma Calls for End to Film Censorship

Shillong: Film director Ram Gopal Varma called for a total ban on film censorship this Wednesday. He labeled the current system an insult to the intelligence of moviegoers. Varma shared his blunt stance on his X timeline.

The director questioned the competency of government-appointed committees. He asked who determines the qualifications of those members. The existence of these boards ignores the reality of modern life. Varma wrote, “Censoring films actually is an insult to the audiences.”

Technology changed everything. Smartphones and global streaming services provide people with access to infinite information. Varma argued that shielding adults from a filmmaker’s truth is archaic. He dismissed the entire concept as idiotic.
