Pioneer Yimkhiung Missionary Rev K Hopongkiu Dies at 108

Kohima: Rev K Hopongkiu died early August 4 at Zion Hospital in Dimapur. He was 108. The Yimkhiung Baptist Borü Amukhungto (YBBA) confirmed the death of the missionary who helped build the Yimkhiung Baptist churches. He traveled by foot to spread the Gospel across many villages.

His career spanned decades of leadership. He pastored at Thoktsur in 1955, Kiutsükiur in 1958, Shamator Town from 1961 to 1962, Anahtongre from 1964 to 1966, Zaonger from 1991 to 2000, and Chessore Town from 2002 to 2003. He held central roles with the YBBA including Evangelist, Field Director, Recording Secretary, and Evangelism Director between 1965 and 1990.

Ordained as a Reverend on March 1, 1981, he spent his final years as a home evangelist and a missioner at large. The association noted, "His life exemplified humble service, unwavering faith and sacrificial leadership, adding that his ministry would continue to inspire future generations." The YBBA expressed sympathy to the family.
