Kohima: Farmers in New Puilwa gathered on September 29, 2026, for the 2nd Naga King Chilli Festival. The event drew local communities, government officials, and key stakeholders to Peren. They met to boost the commercial footprint of the crop. Peren ADC D. Robin served as the special guest.
Robin told the crowd to get serious about sales. He pushed for a market oriented approach to cash in on the chilli's potential. He insisted, "Farmers to scale up commercial production and adopt a market oriented approach to tap into the growing commercial potential of the crop." Farmers need better cultivation, harvesting, and post harvest management to keep the product competitive.
The event highlighted the need for collective marketing to reach domestic and global buyers. Experts from the Department of Industries and Commerce and the Department of Horticulture urged growers to prioritize value addition. Better packaging and branding will help farmers secure higher returns for their work. The day included a traditional howling, a melody by Etwapeule Nza, and remarks from village council leadership.
The festival ended with an inspection of stalls. Dignitaries toured the displays featuring Naga King Chilli alongside various local agricultural and horticultural goods.
