Imphal: Paoninlkhon Daily turned 36. The Imphal evening paper held a celebration at the Usha Hall Complex in Paona Bazaar. Staff gathered to mark three decades and six years of operations. They serve the people of Manipur.
Ashem Bhakta, president of the All Manipur Working Journalists Union, attended as chief guest. Advocate Chongtham Romen, the paper's legal adviser, sat as guest of honour. Editor CH Meghabarna presided over the event.
The paper handed out awards for excellence. Takhelambam Asem Chandrasekhar, Pukhrambam Lamjingba, and W. Inaotcha received cash prizes for their contributions this year. It was a proud moment for the newsroom.
Bhakta praised the publication for surviving in a market now dominated by digital outlets. He noted the paper remains a reliable source of information. Romen reminded the staff of their duty. He said, "Journalists have a responsibility to verify facts thoroughly before publishing news, particularly in an era when misinformation can spread rapidly."
Meghabarna acknowledged the path was not easy. He faced many challenges to keep the presses running. Now, he wants the public to keep backing the paper. The editor plans to keep pushing forward.
